"Votergate: Election Edition" was produced prior to the 2004 presidential election. It analyses the new touch screen e-voting machines and forewarns of potential fraud in the 2004 election. The film introduces Bev Harris, a grandmother who discovered leading e-voting company Diebold?s software code on the internet, jeopardizing the sanctity of voting. This was the first step of a journey which would propel her to becoming the founder of blackboxvoting.org and one the leaders in defending voter rights. The film interviews congressman, computer security specialists and even Diebold?s CEO.
This documentary indicates how simple it is for poll workers, hackers or company officials to manipulate votes and how these machines implemented throughout the country provide no way of auditing their accuracy. Solid evidence is presented providing not only the potential for fraud but also the incorrect voting in past elections with Diebold machines. Howard Dean even demonstrates how simple it is to hack into the Diebold system and change election results.
