DESCRIPTION
Academy Award-winning director Michael Moore examines the Bush administration's financial ties to Saudi Arabia and the bin Laden family in "Fahrenheit 9/11," a well-researched, fast-paced, highly controversial, and important documentary that won the Palme d'Or at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival.
Using actual footage and declassified documents, Moore takes a detailed look into political events both before and after the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, beginning with the polarizing Supreme Court decision that ultimately gave the state of Florida and the 2000 election to George W. Bush. Moore reveals how the U.S. government helped the bin Laden family return to Saudi Arabia immediately after September 11, when all other flights remained grounded; and examines military recruiting techniques in such poor areas as his own hometown of Flint, Michigan.
Moore attempts to get congressmen to enlist their own sons and daughters in the military. The writer-director also visits with the troops, including at a VA hospital where soldiers begin to question America's involvement in Iraq, and spends time with a family whose eldest son is fighting in Iraq. "Fahrenheit 9/11" is a worthy successor to Moore's previous documentaries, "Roger & Me," "The Big One," and "Bowling for Columbine," once again shining a light on the past, present, and future of the U.S.
OUR COMMENTS
This movie has shattered the record for all time box office sales for a documentary and made a statistical impact on the 2004 presidential elections. The film was the first documentary to win at the Sundance Film Festival and did so not solely because of its political message but because it is also a well made film.
Did you know:
*More people saw "Fahrenheit 9/11" in one weekend than all the people who saw Bowling for Columbine in 9 months.
*"Fahrenheit 9/11" broke Rocky III's record for the biggest box office opening weekend ever for any film that opened in less than a thousand theaters.
*"Fahrenheit 9/11" beat the opening weekend of Return of the Jedi.
*"Fahrenheit 9/11" did not cause a storm in the United States because it introduced new material but rat her because it was the first mainstream film to state what the media refused to discuss.
Interestingly, the media and Bush supporters in office bashed this film by attacking Michael Moore personally and saying the movie is filled with lies without stating what the lies are. While, Michael Moore narrates this film with bias, there have been few factual errors found in the movie. While Moore shows that 9/11 helped Bush's agenda, Moore stayed away from the more controversial topics related to 9/11 such as whether the US government engineered 9/11.
We encourage viewers to research the main points: Bin laden family/Bush ties, the reasons for the Iraq war proving false and vote fraud in the 2004 election in Florida. These topics are discussed in other films on the site.
If you really want to research an extreme theory, we encourage you to watch "Loose Change."
